WITH THE SPOKANE SYMPHONY AND WHITNEY CLAIRE KAUFMAN
On Sunday, August 8th, we will start our annual Grand Finale and wine tasting event with the doors opening at 5:00pm and music starting at 7:30pm. The Spokane Symphony makes a triumphant return led by conductor Morihiko Nakahara and accompanied by special guest vocalist Whitney Claire Kaufman. The Spokane Symphony is a professional orchestra based out of Spokane, Washington. They perform pieces from a multitude of genres and origins. With her extensive resume that includes Broadway national tours and countless symphony performances around the world, Whitney Claire Kaufman will join the brilliant Spokane Symphony to sing crowd-pleasing favorites from both stage and screen. Wine tasting will be followed by this incredible musical performance and will conclude our 2021 Festival series with fireworks to celebrate.
Now in its 75th season, the Spokane Symphony continues a long tradition as the largest and most active professional performing arts organization in the Inland Pacific Northwest. Led by James Lowe, the eighth Music Director and Conductor in the orchestra’s history, the 70-piece professional orchestra plays for more than 150,000 listeners each season, and provides a wide variety of exceptional education experiences to the region. The Spokane Symphony present critically-acclaimed performances each year, featuring some of the world’s most respected soloists. Its home is Spokane’s historic Art Deco gem, Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, which the symphony purchased and saved from demolition more than 20 years ago.
Conducting the Spokane Symphony at The Festival at Sandpoint is the orchestra’s Resident Conductor Morihiko Nakahara. He joined the Spokane Symphony during the 2003-04 season as associate conductor. Nakahara is also the music director of the South Carolina Philharmonic, and he is the director of orchestral studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Nakahara is known for his charismatic presence on and off the podium, innovative and audience-friendly programming, and thoughtful interpretations of both standard and contemporary repertoire.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California and Whitney Claire Kaufman began singing with symphonies at the age of 7. After receiving a BFA in theater performance from Chapman University, Kaufman toured with the Broadway national tour of the smash hit musical "Mamma Mia!" She has also performed as a principal guest soloist with countless symphonies and orchestras around the world, and can be found on numerous Hollywood recordings. An original and current cast member of “Disney in Concert”, Kaufman has also sung on Grammy-nominated songs, and has originated several roles in new musicals.
