IT’S TIME TO MAKE your summer plans, and what better way to spend a week than on the Salmon River with friends and other members of the Sandpoint community. And not only that, but you will be able to experience many of Sandpoint’s finest eating and drinking establishments while away from home. Mason Kiebert and his wife Heather Johnston own and operate K-Bear River Adventures in Sandpoint, and each summer they give families from all over the country an adventure of a lifetime.
In an effort to give that experience to their own community, they will be hosting Sandpoint on the Salmon, a whitewater rafting trip that will run from July 15th through July 20th. Joining the adventure will be local business owners who will provide food and beverages along the way. “We wanted to bring Sandpoint to the River,” said Mason about his desire to incorporate his fellow local business owners in the adventure.
Joining K-Bear Adventures will be Trinity at City Beach, Pend d’Oreille Winery, Evans Brothers Coffee and Laughing Dog Brewery. In addition to including local businesses, Kiebert is offering a $250 discount to area residents. “I want to get as many people as possible involved,” he said.
Kiebert has done a great deal of research and found that most ski resorts in the Inland Northwest offer discounts to their local residents, something he wishes to emulate in his business. “The real key is keeping everything local,” said Kiebert.
The trip promises to be an adventure with breathtaking camping spots, wonderful food and drink, and an opportunity to see some of the country’s most beautiful and vast wilderness areas. The rapids are plenty and vary in difficulty, but it is a trip that can be enjoyed by newbies and veterans alike. For more information and photos, go to www.raftthesalmon.com.
