FRESH SNOW, BLUE SKIES and amazing views can only be found in one place – the mountains! And what better way to enjoy all of it than by participating in some of the many activities that will take place this month at Schweitzer Mountain Resort! Schweitzer Mountain is starting 2016 off with a bang as they host races, trail activities and weekend celebrations throughout the month of January giving you a chance to partake in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds us.
January 9 come enjoy the scenery as you take part in Winter Trails Day. Multiple hosted snowshoe hikes will be going throughout the day as you are given free trail access for all of the snowshoe and Nordic ski trails. Not sure how to cross-country ski? The Sandpoint Nordic Club and Schweitzer Mountain Resort have teamed up to offer free cross country skiing demos and lessons on specifically groomed beginner trails at “The Roundabout” on the road up to Schweitzer. Free beginner classic skiing and skate skiing instruction will be offered along with plenty of hot chocolate and snacks to keep everyone warm and fueled up.
On January 16 through 18 Schweitzer Mountain is bringing the Woody Wagon back to the hill for a weekend of food, drinks and fun during the annual Northern Lights at Schweitzer! The weekend will kick off on Saturday, the 16th, as a torchlight parade is led down the slope before a massive fireworks show lights up the sky over the village. Live music and partying will be taking place in the Taps Lounge with performances by The Miah Kohal Band and The Cold Hard Cash Show on Saturday evening.
Not a skier? Here’s your opportunity to gather with a crew of like-minded alpine snowboarders for a week of high-G turns and trench digging on Schweitzer Mountain. Snowboarders are invited to join the North Idaho Carve Event on January 19 through 24 for a chance to show off their skills as they spend the day exploring the mountain while taking part in numerous photo ops. Still not what you’re looking for?
Moonlight snowshoe hikes are back for the 2015-16 winter season starting January 22. Join the Schweitzer Mountain Activity Center staff as you snowshoe through old growth forests with only the moon to light your way. These hikes will give you a chance to capture great views of Sandpoint and our surrounding areas from various points along the trail system. And on the 26th The 2016 Smokin’ Aces Tour is proud to bring you the best slopestyle tour in the United States Northern Rockies. Skiers and snowboarders of all ages and skill levels will be coming from around the area for a chance to throw down their best tricks for your viewing pleasure.
