SANDPOINT — The jolly old elf known as Santa Claus will arrive in Sandpoint this Friday, blazing into town on an antique fire engine and landing in front of Coldwater Creek at 10 a.m. We've heard he's even bringing a brass quintet so everyone will know he's here and lots of kids will be sure to come out and greet him. He's promised to bring laughter, candy canes and hugs for all.
The day after Thanksgiving is a busy one for Santa, but he'll be back at 5 p.m. along with truckloads of Sandpoint High School's winning varsity athletes — just in time for the Mayor's traditional lighting of the Christmas tree in front of Coldwater Creek. The festivities start at 3:30 p.m. with mistress of ceremonies, Velma, Queen of Fun. She’ll introduce the Presbyterian Choir, the Sandpoint High Choir and the Sandpoint High Jazz Band who will take turns warming your hearts with holiday favorites. Coldwater Creek will also be there, serving complimentary cider and other treats to warm your tummy.
Why not plan to make a day of it and spend the afternoon downtown? How long has it been since you strolled in and out of all the shops on and around First and Cedar? Grab a bite to eat, meet a friend over an eggnog latte or a glass of wine — and don't forget the rest of downtown! Fifth Avenue shops offer everything from antiques to auto parts, clothing for the hunter in the family and craft supplies for holiday decorating. Pick up a few groceries or your favorite holiday video along the way and stop in at the new gallery on Fourth Avenue. There's lots to enjoy in downtown Sandpoint this holiday season. Parking in the City lot is free all weekend and the entire month of December!
Look for a complete schedule of events in stores or call the DSBA at 255-1876 for details. And special holiday thanks to Coldwater Creek for once again providing a beautiful tree for all of us to enjoy.
Santa will also be using his magic to appear at the Bonner Mall this Friday and will be available to make your Christmas wishes come true from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Santa's schedule at the mall for the rest of November and through December is as follows: Saturday, Nov. 25, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 26, noon-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., All Sundays in December except Christmas eve, noon-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturdays between Dec. 19 and 23,  11 a.m.-3 p.m. , and Christmas Eve, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Photos with Santa will be available beginning Dec. 2 and will continue through the holiday. The mall will also create a festive atmosphere for shoppers with the addition of live music on weekends until Christmas. For more information call Betty at 263-4272.
